Every FSSAI registration and license comes with a fixed expiry date — 1 to 5 years from the date of issue, depending on the validity you chose when you first applied. When that date passes, your license is void. You are no longer legally permitted to operate your food business, and every delivery platform will suspend your listing.
The good news: renewal is simpler than the original application. You already have your documents, your business is established, and the process is familiar. The only risk is doing it too late.
When to Renew — The Exact Timeline
FSSAI law requires you to apply for renewal before your license expires. The exact timing depends on your license type:
60+ days before expiry — Ideal
Best time to start your renewal
Apply here and you have zero stress. Plenty of time for documents, portal processing, and FSO inspection if required. No risk of any gap in your license validity.
30–60 days before expiry — On time
Minimum recommended window for Basic Registration
Sufficient time for Basic Registration renewal (7–10 days processing). Tight but manageable for State License if documents are ready. FosCos.org can expedite within this window.
15–30 days before expiry — Urgent
Still possible but requires immediate action
Basic Registration can still be renewed in time. State License renewal at this stage risks a gap in coverage. Call FosCos.org immediately — we treat this as a priority case.
Under 15 days or already expired — Critical
Platform suspension risk is immediate
You are in or approaching illegal operation territory. Swiggy and Zomato may already be flagging your listing. Call FosCos.org now — +91 97184 50031 — this is a same-day priority.
What Happens If Your FSSAI License Expires
An expired FSSAI license is treated exactly the same as having no license at all under Indian food safety law. The consequences are immediate and serious:
❌ If you miss renewal
Operating your food business is illegal from the day of expiry — even for one day
Swiggy and Zomato periodically verify license status and suspend expired listings
FSSAI inspections can result in fines up to ₹5,00,000
You lose the continuous compliance record that builds trust with platforms
Reactivating a suspended platform listing takes 5–10 additional days
✓ If you renew on time
Continuous legal operation with no gap in your food business compliance
Your Swiggy and Zomato listing stays live without interruption
No fines, no penalties, no platform suspension
Your renewed certificate issues with the same FSSAI number — no change to platform listings
Peace of mind for the next 1 to 5 years

How to Renew Online — Step by Step
Log in to the FoSCoS portal
Visit foscos.fssai.gov.in and log in with your registered mobile number and OTP. Use the same account you used for your original application.
Go to "My Licenses" and find your certificate
From your dashboard, click "My Licenses / Registrations." Find your active license and click the "Apply for Renewal" button next to it.
Review and update your business details
The renewal form will pre-fill your existing business information. Review every field carefully. Update any details that have changed — address, product categories, or contact information.
Select your renewal validity period
Choose how many years you want to renew for — 1 to 5 years. Renewing for 5 years saves money and means you won't need to think about renewal again until 2031.
Upload updated documents
Upload your fresh address proof and any updated documents. All files must be PDF or JPEG, under 200 KB each. Re-scan documents even if they haven't changed — fresh scans are cleaner.
Pay the renewal fee
Pay the government fee (₹100 × years for Basic; ₹2,000–5,000 × years for State; ₹7,500 × years for Central) via UPI, net banking, or card. Save the payment receipt.
Track and respond to FSO queries
Log in daily to check for FSO queries. Respond within 24 hours. For State/Central licenses, the FSO may schedule a kitchen inspection — cooperate promptly.
Download your renewed certificate
Once approved, download your new FSSAI certificate from the portal. Your FSSAI number remains the same — only the expiry date changes. No need to update your platform listings.

Late Renewal — Penalties and Process
If your FSSAI license has already expired, you are not permanently blocked — but you will face penalties. Here's how the penalty structure works:
How to renew an already-expired license
The process is the same as a standard renewal, but you will see a late fee calculated on the portal based on the number of days elapsed since expiry. Pay the total amount (renewal fee + late penalty) and submit. FosCos.org handles expired license renewals regularly — call us and we'll process it as fast as possible to minimise your penalty days.
Don't Let Your License Lapse
FosCos.org handles FSSAI renewals end-to-end — documents, portal, FSO follow-up. Renew in 7 days for Basic, 30 days for State.
